Donate Life South Carolina

More than 28,000 lives are saved each year in the U.S. through the gift of organ donation, giving hope to all those awaiting a life-saving organ transplant. In addition, every year hundreds of thousands of people need donated corneas and tissue to prevent or cure blindness, heal burns and/or save limbs.

In 2010, in South Carolina, 406 lives were saved by organ transplantation, 676 lives were enhanced by tissue donation and 583 lives were enhanced by ocular donation. Currently, over 112,000 people are on the national transplant waiting list and approximately 1500 of them are South Carolina residents.

Without more donors, many on that list will die waiting. One person can save the lives of up to eight people through organ donation and improve the lives of 50 or more through tissue donation.

Individuals can register their legal consent now by visiting www.DonatelifeSC.org and/or by obtaining, renewing, or changing their S.C. driver's license/ID at any SCDMV office. When registering through the SCDMV, a new logo representing legal consent will be placed on an individual’s license/ID. It is a heart and "Y" surrounded by a circle with 11 "ticks" in it. The symbol and registry Web site name represent the fact that every 11 minutes another person is added to the national transplant waiting list.

Donate Life South Carolina is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote organ and tissue donation for transplantation and provide patient assistance for South Carolina transplant recipients.  Donate Life South Carolina established and maintains the South Carolina Organ and Tissue Donor Registry. 

Donate Life South Carolina operates solely on public contributions.  Your tax deductible gift will have a twofold effect.  It will assist us to educate the people of South Carolina on the critical need for organ, eye and tissue donation; and will help those transplant recipients in temporary need of financial help in paying for expensive transplant medications.
